Organic farmers are nature protectors and preserve habitats

We are bioRe farmers from the village of Mwangudo, and took part in the training on soil erosion and its control measures at the bioRe® Tanzania Training Center in Meatu District.

A report by the bioRe farmers from Mwangudo village: Njile Minoja, Festo Mwandu, Kulwa Bonipahas and Nicholuos Lunegeja, as well as the female farmers Wande Guma, Mbuke Gonge and Gama Mashilim.

Training in the field

The training included several workshops. One of them was about sowing and how to correctly maintain the intervals between cotton planting.

Keeping the correct distances is very important because they make plant care easier, e.g. weed control and pest control when spraying the fields with biological crop protection products. In addition, less seed per acre is used and more yields could be achieved.

We also learned about environmental conservation so that we can sustainably manage the soil for crop production and future uses.

For example, not cutting down trees and planting new trees around our houses and fields, avoiding burning crop residues. The environment is very important for living organisms. For example, the trees are good sources of rain. As organic farmers, we are responsible for protecting the environment for sustainable production and the preservation of the habitats of various living organisms.
